Guidance for East Moriches parents on the District's plans for School Reopening and Testing Procedure & Locations


Testing Responsibility; Identification of who in the community is responsible for referring, sourcing, and administering testing (e.g., local health department testing site, physician offices, hospital system, etc.), particularly in the event that large-scale testing at the school is needed;


Testing Procedure


Individuals who screen positive for symptoms must be tested or cleared by a medical professional before returning to school.

Testing on screened positive individuals can occur at participating urgent cares, pharmacies, MD offices, drive in sites, and hospitals (as a last resort).

Return to School Requirements

Requirements that persons who have tested positive complete isolation and have recovered, and will not transmit COVID-19 when returning to in-person learning. Discharge from isolation and return to school will be conducted in coordination with the local health department.

In order for an individual who was screened positive for symptoms to return to school, documentation from a health care provider following an evaluation in order to return to the in-person learning environment at school.

The documentation must indicate either:
  • Clearance to return to in-person setting; or
  • Negative COVID-19 diagnostic test result and symptom resolution
  • Positive COVID-19 diagnostic test result and release from isolation

If students attend school in-person, the remote learning option is available to them at home while they are awaiting test results or completing a necessary quarantine.

As standard procedure, nurses will hard screen all students who return to school after an infection that results in fever. Their temperature will be checked within the first hour of their return to school and a second time after four hours.

All individuals are required to quarantine after international travel and/or travel within designated states with widespread community transmission.
