The Special Education/PPS Office services the East Moriches community’s children from pre-K to age 21. The goal of this Department is to work collaboratively with our stakeholders and educators to provide a meaningful and rewarding education to all students. In compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA 2004) and in alignment with the district’s goal of helping students meet or exceed high achievement standards our schools adhere to the guidelines of providing a free appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (LRE) for students with special needs.
It is our goal to provide a safe, secure and supportive learning environment focused on student achievement and academic success to ensure that our students reach their educational and social goals. The East Moriches Special Education Department provides students with specific programs and services with direct impacts on learning outcomes, specifically through differentiated instruction, support, and interventions. The East Moriches School District offers a full range of services to all children ages 3 to 21 in the areas of Special Education.
The District has a “child find” process that is designed to locate, identify and evaluate children with disabilities age 3-21. If you know a child who lives within the boundaries of the East Moriches School District who may be in need of special education services, please contact the Special Education Office for further information regarding the referral and evaluation process.
