In May of 2022,  the residents of East Moriches voted to approve a $4.6 million Capital Project. The project, aimed at improving various aspects of the school district, garnered widespread approval and enthusiasm from voters.

The approved Capital Project includes several significant upgrades and renovations across East Moriches schools. The project started during the Spring of 2023 after facing challenges due to post-pandemic costs and supply chain issues. Among the key components are:

  1. Upgrading the Elementary School Cafeteria Lighting: Completed in the Spring of 2023, this essential improvement aims to enhance the learning environment for students by ensuring optimal lighting conditions in the cafeteria, where students gather for meals and various activities.
  2. Constructing an Elementary School Security Vestibule: Safety and security are paramount concerns for any educational institution. The addition of a security vestibule at the elementary school, completed in January 2024, provides an extra layer of protection for students and staff, helping to ensure a safe learning environment.
  3. Upgrading the Middle School Playground: Playgrounds are vital spaces for children to engage in physical activity, socialize, and develop important skills. The upgrade to the middle school playground will provide students with an improved recreational area that fosters fun and healthy play.
  4. Renovating the Middle School Cafeteria Kitchen: The renovation of the middle school cafeteria kitchen will modernize the facilities, ensuring that students have access to nutritious meals prepared in a safe and efficient environment.
  5. Elementary and Middle School HVAC Upgrades: The Elementary and Middle School HVAC System Upgrade project represents a significant investment in creating optimal learning environments for students and staff. By providing air conditioning in all instructional spaces and implementing modern ventilation and filtration systems, the project aims to enhance comfort, health, and academic performance while promoting energy efficiency and sustainability.

The comprehensive nature of the Capital Project underscores the district's commitment to providing an enriching and supportive educational experience for all students. By investing in infrastructure upgrades and enhancements, East Moriches aims to create a conducive learning environment that fosters academic success and overall well-being.

The successful passage of the Capital Project reflects the East Moriches community's dedication to investing in the future of its schools and students. With these improvements, the district is poised to continue delivering high-quality education and fostering a sense of pride and belonging among its residents.

As the project moves forward, the district looks forward to collaborating with stakeholders and keeping the community informed about progress and developments.
