Board Information

The Board of Education

The Board of Education comprises five members, each democratically elected by the registered voters of the East Moriches Union Free School District to serve three-year terms without compensation. Annual board elections take place in the spring, allowing the community to participate in the selection of representatives. As the legislative and policy-making body, the Board represents the interests of the District's residents and is entrusted with formulating regulations that govern public education within our schools.

In the execution of its duties, the Board entrusts the comprehensive management of these policies to the Superintendent of Schools, who serves as the Chief Executive Officer. The Superintendent, in turn, may delegate specific authorities to the administrative staff and/or faculty members, fostering a collaborative approach to effectively implement and oversee the policies that shape the educational environment in our community. The Board remains dedicated to fostering a transparent, accountable, and collaborative educational governance structure that prioritizes the well-being and academic success of all students in the East Moriches Union Free School District.

BOE Public Meetings

The Board of Education convenes monthly, typically on the last Wednesday of each month in the Middle School cafetorium, unless otherwise indicated on the calendar.

Unless otherwise noticed, the Board of Education will meet at 7:30 PM.

There may be times the Board of Education anticipates entering executive session to deliberate on matters permitted to be discussed in executive session. On those occasions, the Board of Education will provide the public notice that will state that the regular meeting will commence at 6:00 PM at which time a notion to go into executive sessions will be made and acted upon. The notice will further provide that regardless of whether the motion to go into executive session is approved or rejected, the public session of that meeting would resume a approximately 7:30 PM.

Community members are not only welcome but actively encouraged to attend and participate in all regular Board of Education meetings. During these sessions, residents are invited to share their input and pose questions. The Board is committed to addressing residents' inquiries and feedback within reasonable time frames and in accordance with established procedures. This commitment underscores the Board's dedication to fostering an inclusive and transparent decision-making process that reflects the concerns and perspectives of the community it serves.
